Listen To This (Music)

PostPosted by Longshot » Wed Jun 01, 2011 2:19 am

So I was thinking earlier today that I would like to do a sort of simple thread involving music. Initially, I thought about doing album reviews kind of similar to what Foxxc has going, but with different music since he is more into metal/punk than I am. I still might, but in the meantime, I thought I would start up a thread where anytime I (or anyone can post, it is about sharing after all) come across a song that I dig or just find catchy, I would post it in this thread to share it. If you dig it, cool, if not, it isn't a big deal. The point of the thread is just to share music with other people and maybe it will turn somebody onto something fresh in the world of music.

That being said, I am going to post the first song. It has been getting a lot of airplay in my area since these guys played a show for a local radio station. I assume other people have heard it, but you never know.

I heard it several times and assumed it was a band I had heard of, but it wasn't. I was like "who is MC Rut? And what kind of lame name is that?"

Reminds me of stuff I listened to in high school (and still do) like Jimmy Eat World, Incubus, etc. (Not really comparing them with Incubus, but it would have been on my CDs at lunchtime.)

It is on my iPod.

Not to hijack the thread, but I like this track.

And the video (see the warning before the video):

I watch it on a loop, despite the seizures.

"Infant Sorrow", a fake artist/band created by Russell Brand for his movie Get Him To The Greek. Good stuff.

I can see the Jimmy Eat World comparison. My immediate reaction to them was that I thought The Black Keys might have put out a new song.

Moving on!

This next song isn't as recent. It's from 2006, so not old, but not new either. It's one of the better werewolf songs out there.

Trent Reznor and Karen O - Immigrant Song (Led Zeppelin Cover)

Heard this on the trailer for the American remake of Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, it's a pretty cool cover.

Hmmm...I'm not sure how I feel about that. And I'm a huge NIN fan.

Bad Meets Evil (Eminem and Royce Da 5'9) - Fast Lane

This album came out today. I haven't bought an Eminem album in probably 8 or 9 years, but I might actually pick this up. What I've heard has been pretty good.

Speaking of Weird Al...

Off his new album that comes out in 5 days I believe? He's been streaming his entire album since yesterday I believe. You can find it here http://exclaim.ca/MusicVideo/ClickHear/ ... bum_stream

It's crazy to think how long Weird Al has been around and has still kept his unbelievably cheesey ways that we've come to adore him for.

Peter Bjorn and John - Second Chance

This song is making its rounds on commercials at this point. I heard it a month or two ago when I was driving a rental car with Sirius Radio. It's definitely a catchy track from those guys that sing that "Young Folks" song.

Neat sound. Not sure I can reconcile the fact they sound like girls in every song though. I think Phoenix has accomplished the highest notes without sounding too feminine.

I had been putting up a lot of indie and alternative stuff, so I thought I would switch it up by posting a kind of obscure Alice In Chains song. I think it was off the Sap EP, but I might be mistaken about that. I've got the CD lying around somewhere. Anywho, it's a cool listen.

Those guys are awesome. Don't like every song (I don't like every song of any artist) but they kill it with "One more time" and "Veridis Quo".

It's funny, how much of their music is 10+ years old, but doesn't sound dated. You'd never guess.

This is the hottest track Common has done in years so if you're at all into Common or hip hop, it's worth hearing.

This is the first time I've seen the video for "Sail," and could have sworn that was a Talkboy from Home Alone. But upon further review, it isn't.

Wale - Bait (feat. TCB)

I'm something of a Wale fan. He's from around my way and I will occasionally stumble onto him playing a show around the area. I think I've seen him three or so times at this point, and he is generally pretty decent. Anywho, this is one of his newer tracks.

I actually got around to getting the AWOLNATION album and it surprised me by having better songs than the single, "Sail," which you have all heard by now since it gets regular radio play and was the song on the commercials for House recently (I also posted it on this thread a while ago). Anywho, here is a different song off the same album.

On a different note, Marvie, since you seem to prefer instrumental stuff a bit more, you should check out some stuff by Bibio. All his stuff isn't instrumental, but the instruments rather than the vocals are just about always the focus.
