PWG BOLA 2011 Discussion Thread

The preeminent tournament in professional wrestling, the Battle of Los Angeles, returns to Reseda, CA on August 20, 2011. The 2011 Battle of Los Angeles features eight of the top competitors from around the world facing off in a single night, single elimination tournament. The winner receives not only the adulation of the fans and the glory of prevailing over seven of the best professional wrestlers in the world today, but also the opportunity to request any match of the Pro Wrestling Guerrilla Board of Directors over the next calendar year.

Past winners, including "Photogenic" Chris Bosh and Joey Ryan, have parlayed their tournament victories into a shot at the Pro Wrestling Guerrilla World Championship title. Others, like 2006 Battle of Los Angeles winner Davey Richards, have requested Pro Wrestling Guerrilla World Tag Team Championship title matches. The possibilities are only limited by the imagination of the tournament winner.

Tickets for this premiere event are now on sale, and fans interested in attending this event are encouraged to act quickly. Where else can you see Pro Wrestling Guerrilla World Champion "Mr. Wrestling" Kevin Steen take on Dave "Fit" Finlay, former World Champions El Generico and Claudio Castagnoli face off, fast-rising star Willie Mack look to upset the awesome Chris Hero, or two of the hardest hitters in professional wrestling, Eddie Edwards and Roderick Strong, go one-on-one, in only the first of three rounds of matches? Only in Pro Wrestling Guerrilla, and only at the 2011 Battle of Los Angeles.

Pro Wrestling Guerrilla's 2011 Battle of Los Angeles takes place Saturday, August 20, 2011, at 8:00 PM at American Legion Post #308 in Reseda, CA. American Legion Post #308 is located at 7338 Canby Ave., Reseda, CA 91335. Front Row tickets are $30 per night, and General Admission tickets are $25 per night. Online tickets orders are subject to the PayPal Service Charge (2.9% + $0.30). Tickets purchased in advance allow for priority admittance to the venue, along with guaranteed event seating. Online tickets sales for this event will end on August 16, 2011, at 11:59PM. Any remaining tickets will be available for purchase at the door. Tickets are not refundable. Video recording devices are not permitted. Card subject to change.

A little disappointed that it's only one night but it's worth the price of admission for Steen/Finlay alone let alone the rest of the brackets.

I've heard plenty of good things about Finlays performance against Sami Calahan so should be a fun card.

The only person in that tourney I am not familiar with is Willie Mack, so it looks pretty solid. Finlay/Steen is definitely the most intriguing match to me just because I wouldn't mind seeing what Finlay's indie move set would look like.

Prime favorites going in are Generico, Strong, and Steen. Generico and Strong have very respectable BoLA records, with Generico having been in every single one to date. Steen is going in as champ and has been on a hot streak for the last few shows.

If I were booking it, I would have:

Rd 1
Mack over Hero
Claudio over Generico
Edwards/Strong doesn't matter. Whoever is more active in PWG should go over.
Steen over Finlay

Rd 2
Mack over Claudio
Steen over Edwards or Strong

Rd 3
Steen over Mack

There is no reason to really put the KOW over since they are potentially jumping to WWE and will be permanently over in the Indies regardless, but putting Mack over both of them in one evening would be pushing him to the moon, which makes the most sense considering is is a regular PWG performer.
